Sharon is a passionate believer in the power of dialogue to transform and deepen relationships. Originally trained as an individual psychotherapist she joined the relate team as an intern to support her movement into couples work.
Sharon has over 30 years of clinical experience as a psychotherapist, including 23 years in New York (USA) prior to coming to New Zealand over a decade ago. She has worked in both mental health agencies, and private practice.
Sharon is committed to working collaboratively and respectfully. Her goal is to discover with you what prevents you from having the relationship that you would like to have. She will help learn what gets in your way; how those problems came to be; and how to make changes so that those things no longer continue to get in your way. You will become better resourced to deal with life’s problems as they come along, and enjoy your life more fully.
People come to me to work on a variety of problems including: depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, low confidence/self-esteem and assertiveness problems, sexual identity issues and parenting difficulties. I work with both individuals and couples. Low cost couple counselling is available.
While I predominantly work in a psychodynamic relational psychotherapy manner, I draw from my additional trainings in Gestalt, Psychodrama, EMDR, and Art Therapy.
